This years Wikimedia Hackathon was located in Lyon, France at Valpré-Lyon between the 23rd and 25th of May.

The hotel (Valpre-Lyon) was absolutely beautiful with large grass areas, great architecture and a place for you weather you wanted to have a large or small discussion, sit quietly or sit outside. As well as Pétanque, table tennis was also available as well as plenty of people to meet!

I planned on primarily hacking on my MassAction extension along with one of two others but as at any hackathon I got massively distracted talking to people and working on other projects.

Hacking

Some MassAction issues that we did manage to close and touch include:

The last of these bugs meant that MassAction was running on HHVM for the first time as previously my development had only been in zend engine PHP. And all of a sudden it was not working correctly. This meant that I created a issue titled ‘Fix for HHVM’ which was fixed later in the hackathon and was down to an incompatibility between Zend and HHVM. The issue with HHVM can be found here.

As well as actively working on MassAction I also talked to many people about it and the way it was interacting with Mediawiki causing me to file a few more TODO issues such as this, this and this.

I also hacked on other things, mainly trying to fix the script used to generate the Wikidata world map which can be seen here but after a few hours of hacking decided it would be much better to perform a full rewrite (which I look forward to doing at some point in the future).

Exploring

Now of course, I was in Lyon! Exploring was needed, so take a look at some of the snaps below!

Lyon really is a lovely place and I look forward to returning soon.

I am also looking forward to next years hackathon which will be taking place in Jerusalem.
