Dartmoor camping related map data (UK)

I’m about to head camping on Dartmoor, and wanted to go prepped with some of the various map related data that I will need. Basically, where to camp, and where not to camp…

Searching around I managed to find this basic set of infomation

And from that went and found some slightly more structured mapping information about the area

The camping locations KML can be downloads and used however you want. For convenience I have re uploaded the current file to this Google Maps map.

The OpenStreetMap data can also be extracted and converts to KML, and uploaded to Google maps, which I have done so for the current versions on this Google Maps map.

You can also get slightly more authoritative information about the range areas (but also larger / too large) from the UK AIP digital dataset, as these flight areas are listed. Files such as EG_AIP_DS_FULL_20260709_KML.zip contains a nested KMZ file, which in turn contains the actual KML geometry. Matching the three Dartmoor aviation danger-area placemarks, EG D011A, EG D011B, and EG D011C, you can then extract them as separate KMLs.

You can now find this extracted information on this Google Maps map where you can in turn redownload the KML/KMZ files.

You can see a complete Google Maps map, with all of the areas also, on my PUBLIC: Dartmoor Camping Stuff 2026.

With any luck this might come in handy for you, and I believe you can copy and edit it to your heats content, and also view it on mobile (though I’m not sure about saving it offline as part of Google maps…)

And if it isn’t still 2026 when you find this, you might benefit from re downloading the KMLs and making your own map, just incase they have changed…

And just for fun, here is a little JS tool that might help you convert between the OSM way IDs and a KML file.

Download OSM Ways as KML

Fetches OpenStreetMap way geometry, converts it in your browser, and downloads Google My Maps-ready KML files.

Ready.

Data: OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL. This tool uses the public Overpass API, so please avoid repeated rapid downloads.

Enjoy!
